VAT Calculator: Add or Remove Value Added Tax

Calculate VAT amounts, tax-inclusive totals, and pre-tax prices with simple formulas and examples.

A VAT Calculator estimates value added tax on a price or extracts the tax component from a VAT-inclusive total. VAT rules and rates differ by country and product category.

Add VAT to a Price

VAT = Net Price ├Ч VAT Rate ├╖ 100

Gross Price = Net Price + VAT

For example, a net price of тВ╣1,000 with an illustrative 10% VAT gives тВ╣100 tax and a gross price of тВ╣1,100. This example is mathematical only; it does not imply that a 10% VAT rate applies in a particular location.

Remove VAT from an Inclusive Price

Net Price = Gross Price ├╖ (1 + VAT Rate ├╖ 100)

VAT Amount = Gross Price тИТ Net Price

Do not calculate the tax-inclusive component simply by multiplying the gross total by the rate; the rate applies to the net price.

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter the price.
  2. Enter the applicable VAT rate.
  3. Choose whether to add or remove VAT.
  4. Calculate the net price, tax amount, and total.

Important Considerations

Check local rules for exemptions, reduced rates, rounding, invoices, and registration obligations. VAT is not identical to GST in every jurisdiction, and tax obligations depend on applicable law.

Use this calculator for estimates only. For filing or compliance, consult official tax guidance or a qualified tax professional.
